Shelby Guru Question Individual Throttle Bodies on GT350's
« on: October 16, 2021, 05:37:39 PM »
Were any 1965 or 1966 GT350's raced with individual throttle body weber induction units. If so would anyone have any photos?

The 1965 R model delivered new to the Comstock racing team in Canada ran webers back in the day.

Shown in use is a late 1963 through about March 1964 system using Weber 48 IDM5 two choke (a.k.a. venturi) carburetors.

Canadian rules permitted the Webers.

I wouldn't be surprised that the carbs were messed with and an "old-timer" liked the earlier carbs? Notice the different fuel like routing in the two pictures.

There was still a lot of Voodoo going on with them, even though it was largely imaginary.

Canadian rules permitted the Webers.

The whole underlying reason that there is a Shelby GT350 in the first place is Ford wanted a race on Sunday sell on Monday Mustang.
The Mustang was a B Production car and was not competitive against the SB Vette without both chassis and engine mods.
Production rules at the time allowed for engine mods or suspension mods but not both.
By being listed as the manufacturer Shelby was able to produce 100 modified cars to satisfy SCCA production rules.
All the cars got the suspension mods and then race car engines were modified further but keeping their overall published specs such as single carb.

  Mike ,
I know it's not your picture but I have to call foul. If this is an r model , it would at least have an export brace instead of the the stock braces , right? Also of not is the super long dip stick/tube , as in ''generator" application.

Several cars were raced under the Comstock livery in period, including a Mustang two door hard top.

Hi Dan, would it be fair to say, no 65 or 66 Shelby GT350 was raced in the SCCA in the USA with webers? However a mustang coupe with webers was raced in Canada through Comstock racing?

GT350s racing in SCCA B Production during 1965-66, the GT350 historians need to answer that one.

It would be fair to say no 65/66 GT350 raced in SCCA in the USA back in the day with webers. They were illegal to run in that sanctioning US bodies venue. Canadian venues allowed them and historical documentation indicates that the Comstock team car used them . Most likely other privateer cars used them in racing the Canadian venues also.

The Comstock GT20350 that had Webers installed when delivered had earlier 48 IDM Webers and not the 48 IDA Webers that you would have thought would have come on that late of a application.

Just as an update and additional information. The picture I posted in reply #1 was as that car was raced outside of the US
