Shelby Guru's required, who's the driver & CSX number
« on: November 21, 2021, 05:09:05 AM »
One for the Shelby guru's. I'd like to know who the driver was in this Cobra, I was told it was Bob Bondurant? If so, what was the year, the race & the CSX number of the Cobra? Was it a Shelby American racing team Cobra or an independent team car & who took the photo? Thanks for any input, cheers.

I don't know the answer but it does not look like Bob to me.

I suggest it is Bill Steele out of Houston, TX driving the Gene Hamon Ford Cobra CSX 2164.

I have this image same spot, a bit different position in the cockpit, his chin is lower,  noted as Bondurant, Green Valley, Texas ? ?

There is a spot at Green Valley where the cars catch air, there is that pic of Miles in the R model.

Cobra Ned is I think right that it is the Bill Steele Cobra, but looks like Bondurant's helmet, Steele's helmet is different.

There are a number of photos B&W, and color here, 1964 & 1965, of Steele's Cobra and others, some pics of the old man, and Miles

 R model good site !

I had a quick look, didn't spot any images of Bondurant.

February 13-14, 1965....Green Valley races (Texas)....Bob Bondurant is at the wheel learning the track due to mechanical difficulties on SA's 3002 Cobra (broken camshaft in Saturday's practices).  The Cobra, as Ned mentioned is 2164.
