Just incase anyone is interested...........

Shelby American will be reviving the legendary Mustang Shelby GT500KR. Based on the 2022 GT500 and assembled at Shelby's Las Vegas facility, it'll be offered in extremely limited numbers. With upgraded suspension, a bunch of carbon fiber, and a claimed 900-plus horsepower, it should be the most capable Shelby-badged Mustang ever offered.

KR, in case you're wondering, stands for "King of the Road." Cars wearing the KR nameplate are meant to be the very best of their kind, with every performance part available included to make them as extreme as possible. As the name suggests, it's a sort of apex predator for the streets. Shelby has only offered KR-badged Mustangs twice in the past. The first was in 1968, and then again in 2008.

Judging by the upgrades available on this latest GT500KR, we'd say it lives up to the name. Shelby is able to squeeze an extra 140 hp from the GT500's 5.2-liter V-8 thanks to a new supercharger, bigger heat exchangers, a cold-air intake system, and a Borla exhaust. Suspension-wise, there are stiffer springs, new Ford Performance sway bars, and adjustable camber plates. The MagneRide system has also been recalibrated.

Those wheels are Shelby originals measuring 20 inches in diameter, and come wrapped in high-performance summer tires. Other changes to the exterior include a carbon fiber hood with extra venting, a carbon splitter, a carbon diffuser, and a carbon gurney flap. There's also Shelby-specific striping and badges. You'll be able to option a widebody kit too, but Shelby hasn't released any details or pictures of such an upgrade just yet.

Shelby American plans to build just 225 examples of the GT500KR starting in the first quarter of 2022, with the first set to be auctioned off for charity with Barrett-Jackson. Pricing for the whole car starts at $127,895, though if you already have a GT500, you can send it to Shelby to get KR-ified for $54,995.

Isn't that going to be a sub 9 second car and it will require a cage?

Tesla Plaid has AWD.  Hard to imagine the KR pulling those kind of numbers.

I'd guess 10.4-ish, with around 135 mph in trap speed...on street tires...on a good-grip track day.

With slicks...0.5-sec quicker?

According to the Winter 2022 Shelby American, the fastest 1/4 time run at the last convention was a 2020 GT500.

It ran 10.13 @ 142 mph. It was a "regular GT500".

The article goes on to state that according to NHRA rules because of it's time, it and the driver were in violation of five.

    "1) no NHRA Competition License
     2) no roll cage
     3) no full fire suit
     4) lack of various safety shields
     5) no drag parachute"

Now my thought is that since the new KR is being billed as the "top of the hill" so to speak, that it will be at least as fast as this GT500?

It also raises the question to me, that IF this is all accurate, is Shelby American offering a car that does not qualify to run on an NHRA sanctioned track?

Tesla Plaid with the AWD is unreal on the street. Won't go up in smoke like the Shelby would. Unbelievable smooth acceleration even with the stock tires. Sign of the times I guess. I'd still take the Shelby even though it would be slower.  8)

Same price as a Tesla to. "Think" NHRA is goin to make a rule change to 9.0s @150 mph. Wonder if the Shelby is goin to be an automatic ?

I wasn't there. I am referring to the Convention coverage article by Kopec in the Winter 2022 Shelby American. As far as I know, the event was run by Randy. Likely that documentation is from him and given to Rick?

I would presume that he would know the answer to your question and could answer or clear up any inaccuracies about it?

It sounds crazy fast for a pure street car but that was my understanding correctly or not.

My 1/4 mile guesstimate is for a car in pure stock trim, on a non-prepared track surface.

I agree with vtgt500 that 900 hp will be a handful.  Even on slicks and a prepped track.

2012 ZL-1 Camaro. My friend-who now works in prototype vehicle development at Ford in Dearborn was putting brand new Camaros into the 9s. 1st to do it and I believe the package was around 15 grand for these numbers at Livernois Engineering in Dearborn hts. 2012. I'd post the video of my friend Rick turning 9.80s but it is now unavailable on youtube at this moment. He was their test pilot there.   https://www.torquenews.com/106/livernois-motorsports-builds-first-2012-chevrolet-camaro-zl1-9-second-club

From the above link.  (But I'm still referring to totally stock cars.)

"Livernois is offering the full package installed and tuned for just $14,800. This package includes items like high flow cylinder heads, a high lift camshaft, a unique heat exchanger, an upgraded fuel system, long tube headers, a larger throttle body, an upgraded supercharger pulley and a dyno tune at the Livernois facility to ensure that all of those high performance parts are making as much power as possible."

"This package increases the power output from 476 rear wheel horsepower (580 horsepower at the crankshaft) and 476 rear wheel torque (556lb-ft of torque at the crankshaft) to a whopping 707 horsepower and 680lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels...enough to rocket this 4,295 pound muscle car into the high 9 second range in the quarter mile."

So are you saying a SAI GT500KR is considered a totally stock car? SAI doing a KR or Livernois doing a Package of their own put both of those cars to be  not as "as assy line" delivered so neither are "stock". Reminds me of Shelbys in the 60s or Yenko Chevies or Royal Bobcat Pontiacs.
