I was negotiating for  a video to be of me creating portraits of Cobras when i realized that what I actually need first is a website. But funds are tied up so I'm thinking as small as a two pager, first page about the artist, second page offering four works for sale . What I have to offer the website creator in trade if he or she is a Shelby buff is 11"x  17" prints of my printings of Cobras, GT40s and Shelby himself. These sold for $75 at the high point, but $20-45 ea. is what you can expect to be usual sale price.


 Ideally the website creator would be near Los Angeles (or better yet,  East of Los Angeles) but I can work remotely if need be. You could start by sending me three  URLs of websites you created and I in turn will send you photos of the fine art created so far, and a URL of a established automotive fine artist as a model. If you accept this work as trade we can get rolling...

Wallace, There is a website that already exists and it's free. It's called Facebook. No need to send me any of your drawings.

But will Facebook create me a semi permanent website? I admit I'm out of the modern trends, sort of Rip Van Winkle-ish driving a manual shift car and using a flip-phone...

Another consideration is that there are allot of car people that don't use Facebook and plenty of others that don't. Just depends on how large of a group you want to reach and your focus audience

 I don't know how people are referred to Facebook.Now Google I know--you just type in the subject and it refers you to a list of videos like I wrote in  427 Cobra and found a video on  big blocks in  Monte Carlo such as 7X Cobra in Monaco
 but I have never been referred to Facebook. And Twitter, that's  a whole new world. i know it seems odd that all these have been around for years but not everybody is up to the same speeds.

I'll be honest, making a post, on a site like this, requesting an off topic service for "in trade" instead of being willing to pay for that specific service is fleeting at best.

As for finding someone local to build your website, a quick search of services on craigslist found quite a few right in your neck of the woods:

Again, I'm doubtful you'll find someone who wants your portraits in trade, maybe funds up front, followed up with a piece of the back end as each item sells.

Go to Godaddy for your Domain Name, get it for 10 Years (less than $200) and they will help you build your Web Site.  Get a Nerd Friend to come over and help.  I own about 35 Domain Names.

Let's face it, there are just contraries that need to be that way just so they think they will be special and get some sort of attention from their Mommy maybe?

I hesitate to give advice on a forum - so this is worth what you paid for it  ;D

I've been in this business for over 40 years (graphics, illustration, graphic design) and am getting to the point to where I find myself more and more frustrated with technology which is constantly changing - but I digress. My experience has been:

I've had my business website on Godaddy for years and have not had a good experience. My site has gotten hacked several times where clients and potential clients click on my page only to be redirected to a porn site. Word is Godaddy's security isn't up to snuff. Currently if you try to go to my biz site with Godaddy you will get an error.

So I am in the process of finding a new solution.

I will probably go with Behance;

They seem to be at the forefront concerning creatives promoting and marketing their artwork and services on the web.

Since I am in the graphics biz I use the Adobe Creative Suite and therefor regularly receive emails from them with tips and tutorials, etc. Below is a link they sent me on how to put your portfolio on Behance. I haven't done this as of yet so I can't report on how it went, but if you want to explore it yourself -

Facebook is super easy to use and it occasionally generates work for me but it really isn't the best, most professional look IMHO. Just a place to post samples of my illustration work that I can point potential clients to plus I can comment on my process - like "here is a project I am working on and this is how I do it"...

If you click on "Photos" on my biz FB page you'll see what I mean.

I'm in business 50 years. I have NEVER found just one source of advertising as adequate.

The most successful was around '86 with Yellow Pages for Custom Decks. Then the company "reorganized headings" putting you in with everyone else advertising Construction and you just got lost in the crowd.

The only thing that you can do is diversify your postings, because that is what this is, advertising.

What it comes down to is that either you need to be the only one on the planet offering a service that people want or it is just a case of "spending $100,000 on advertising to get $35,000 worth of work.

It isn't that you aren't offering a quality service, it's just that everyday there are 5 more people coming in the business.


It's your choice where to start. Anyone's guess on how to reach the people you want to? Facebook picture posts get a lot of free coverage. I doubt you should worry about not being able to reach someone who lives in a log cabin with no electricity or is in rebellion with Facebook. It gets MILLIONS of views.
