Air cleaner seal
« on: May 14, 2018, 12:19:24 PM »
Does any one have any recommendations on what to use to attach the foam seal for the air cleaner to the hood?
Also looking for recommendations on getting the factory water pump rebuilt,
thanks in advance.

First confirm that you have the proper shorter foam seal compared to the taller GT350 and then use contact adhesive to adhere to the bottom side of hood . Brush on both surfaces then wait a couple minutes for it to tack up before you stick it together. Yellow is what they typically used however not much if any showed unlike the other areas on the car it was used at.

we used the 3M yellow glue (aka gorilla snot) you van purchase at any local auto parts store

clean both surfaces, hood area and gasket

dont over do on the glue for two reasons

1 it will seep out all over

2 it will eat up the rubber gasket

make sure of placement, when its on it is on

light on both sides, let the glue dry slightly

then apply pressure

good luck

You can use an olds 442 ram air seal but you have to cut it to size , it’s larger and thicker but the same type foam and color.

The gt 500 seal is smaller diameter than the gt 350 seal. The 428 cj air cleaner base is 16 1/4'' diameter & the 351 W air cleaner base is 17'' diameter . The cj engine sits up higher in the engine bay than the 351 w so thats why the gt 500 seal is thinner.

I thought It would be helpful to add that the GT500 ram air seal outside diameter is approximately 17 1/4  and the GT350  18". The top edge of the air cleaner sits approximately in the center of the inner and outer edge of the foam ram air seal when the hood is closed.

If one found the olds 442 seal,
1. What is the correct thickness for the gt500 application.?
2. Is there a proper and correct method to trim the seal to specs?
3. Would the seal need to be cut to adjust the diameter (i.e. Circumference)?
Thank you
