As the current 68 Shelby head judge I was asked to review the judging sheets ( 1968 Shelby ) and suggest any changes. One item I requested to be changed was to not allow ten-spokes and or only with documentation as only a hand full of 68 Shelby's ever received these wheels from the factory. As stated it is what I requested, will it be changed? Probably but I haven't heard one way or another as of now.

Thanks for giving your time to take on this role Rodney. Is there an avenue for one to get 68 Shelby judging sheets(or 69-70s)? SAAC or MCA? I assume you are the SAAC head judge? Gary
You can ask ( for SAAC ) the Concourse Chairman Mike Shally or perhaps the head judge Charles Turner. I have no idea about the MCA. I am head judge of the 68 Shelby class for SAAC.  For SAAC 47 Mike is the concourse chairman and Charles is the head judge. Both are on this forum.

Thanks. I have talked with Charles many times on different social venues. Gary

We have always required reasonable proof for out of the ordinary circumstances . Reasonable being the key word. This goes for other things too . No need to call out every obscure possibility. The burden of reasonable proof has been with the entrant for his or her specific car. Just because something was done on one of the few ten spoke cars doesn't mean it is automatically correct for another. Of course the powers to be could change that but I don't think they should IMO.
Since we are talking 68s what I have seen too much of lately are claims that "many dealers"(current KR auction on BaT) installed top stripes. Another is many dealers installed 10 spokes when new. Then we get to the dealers installing Paxtons.....So I have never seen a car documented as such for any of these but I am NOT a judge so my experience is limited. Has anyone here reading this seen documentation of any of these things being added on a brand new 68 Shelby at delivery?
Better to start a new thread so that others searching can benefit. Plus no one would ever suspect to glean that dealer type specific information from a "10-spoke spare stowage " titled thread.

Hi Rodney,

Yes I have and will continue to deduct for ten-spokes. The last judging sheet I have does not say no ten spokes but it does specify 15 x 6 semi gloss steel wheels. I just wanted that no ten-spokes with out documentation clause as someone might try and make an argument for the ten-spokes as a few ( very few ) cars did get them.

Is there a further deduction if the spare does not match the Road wheels? That is what I recall reading at some point... Again, I doubt anyone but me will be judging these details of my Shelby (and this judge is easily bribed... ;) ), but interesting to know.

As I think I mentioned, I do have the hubcaps tucked away against a future restoration, and even 5 steel wheels (the spare steel wheel may even be original, not sure about that), but for now, 10 spokes it is. I am taking her on a little 2500 mile jaunt from Rhode Island to North Dakota in June - so obviously a "driver"! :) Oh, I forgot to mention she also came away with the "Provenance Award" at the recent Coast-to-Copper rally, so she still gets some love from the judges!

Yes there would be a deduction if the spare was incorrect and or different. There are 2 separate categories for tire/wheels so 2 places for possible deductions. #1 Undercarriage, the 4 tires/wheels on the ground. #2 Trunk, the spare tire/wheel. So the car can potentially loose points in either category for incorrect tires and wheels. Note; the tires and wheel covers are separately judged items from the wheels.
