Hi guys -

Any of you ever experience a loud initial start up on a 68 GT500? It kinda screams when the starter engages. Fresh rebuild, maybe 1500 miles. I just replaced the (newish) starter with a new new one and the noise problem still persists... not the biggest deal, just kind of embarrassing.

Thought I'd phone a friend.

Thank you!

Yes I have had this issue. The problem is a fairly common one, the bellhousing is bent. Typically from someone jacking the car using the bellhousing, or if someone has damaged the bellhousing by driving over something that is a little too tall.

It's hard to fix.

My 67 does that also, I was told either replace the starter or try shimming it? Horrible sound and yes embarrassing....
