Here's a question for the SAAC veterans on here.  Who was the first person to ask Carroll Shelby to sign his car?  I'm guessing it would have happened at a SAAC convention.  What type of Shelby was it?

I'm going to guess that Rick was the first to ask. When Shelby said yes, Rick led him to Howards' car as a joke and the rest is history.  ::)

How about a part from the car? Long ago, back when events were meets and not shows, Mr. Shelby was doing signatures for free. There was a long line of people waiting. They had all kinds of media from plain white paper to skin. A Cobra owner wanted to get something signed but he had nothing at hand to get signed. I suggested that he go across the street and buy a marker pen, go remove the air cleaner top from his engine, and get in line with it.

My friend did just that. Mr. Shelby was sort of taken back by the idea of signing a car part but he did it. In minutes people were showing up in line with markers and sun visors or glove box doors from their cars at the event.

We might have a winner here!  Dan, you might be he catalyst that started the whole signing car parts/cars by CS.  Congrats! ;D

Looks like a clear cut case of "inappropriate touching" to me  ;)

IIRC the first convention he attended was the SOA in '75 . He kept saying "I can't believe the attention you're all giving to these old cars". it was just "a job" to him. At some point the OPPORTUNITY  neon light lit up and he was "back in the saddle" again LOL.
He was a great man , rip

We all have signed stories! Way back I had a LeRoy Neiman serigraph when Ford won LeMans. Already had Phil Hill & Dan Gurney sign it and when it was Carroll's turn he wanted to buy it. Said no thanks, but he still did sign it!

Do you think the pretty girl in the bathing suit is going come out and sue the CS Foundation and claim inappropriate touching/marking? #Metoo?

This thread brings to mind the question: With all the tattoo craze going on, has anyone gotten a CS logo tattoo? COBRA? GT350? GT500? Pics or it didn't happen!
