Originally Carroll Shelby had intended to produce just 10 Phantom Cobra's and thru the design process Carroll wanted to come up with something very special & the means to give the vehicle a (factory) custom paint job that included an image of a Cobra faintly etched to the vehicle skin on each side with Carroll himself signing the nose of the hood and his autograph clear-coated into the finish

Carroll, realizing the exterior of this one-off CSX car, had never been exploited beyond the deletion of the normally seen Shelby dual LeMans racing stripes so Carroll and his team commissioned artist Kenny Vaughn and it took Kenny four months to complete the automobile custom paint work

The car was revealed to Carroll at the Scottsdale Barrett Jackson VIP dinner & auction in 2003 as a surprise as he did not know that his car had been finished days prior to the event

When Carroll saw the car for the first time he fell in love, as it was exactly how he had envisioned it and this car was then auctioned off at Barrett Jackson at the opening night gala celebrating Carroll's 80th birthday with a portion going to the Carroll Shelby's Children's Foundation

After the car was purchased by the new owner that gentleman asked Carroll to include the car in the 40th anniversary Shelby American victory tour were the car won many trophies & press coverage. Included in the victory tour this car was on display at Amelia Island, 12-hours of Sebring, Lowes speedway, The New York International auto show, the SAAC nationals, the Ford centennial, mid-American Ford-Shelby meet, Monterey historic races and the Denver grand prix

Car was also featured in Auto Week magazine at the time.

Carroll even wrote a letter dated January 29, 2003 to the buyer to personally thanking him for purchasing the special one of a kind car and thus contributing to the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation
