Maybe if you post a picture we would have a better idea of what your now starting with.

You can restore (refinish, replace the welds and the heat traces/blueing) many of these depending on the drivelines current condition

Walnut shell blasting should not have altered the exterior surface much compared to other choices but it also depends on the what you started with.

As stated above a picture or pictures would sure help

Is possible to come to conclusion what is  original to 69 CJ not SCJ in respect to being considered correct--so far some of the biggest names in restoration have somewhat different version and to me everyone is right. Some feel that all automatic big block had tapered shaft, while others feel that only SCJ had tapered and than is me that only get headache out of it, and will gladly comply with what ever you specialist feel is correct, and than of course does anyone has one for sale.                                                 yours truly  John Zajc---please help me from going insane--thanks

I am one of the ones that feel that the BB automatic got the tapered driveshaft regardless of if SCJ or not.

Bob and you are also the one that deserves the most respect for trying to help when needed---thanks again, is just that I have no knowledge to make concrete decision, that why a lot of us are at mercy of you guys that obviously have skill needed. So if it was your car what would you do---thanks
First off you can't find one of those driveshafts easily if at all. Second only a tiny fraction of the Ford Mustang /Shelby enthusiast community even know that they exist let alone pick it out a show or cruise night. Given those two facts I would dress up the 4 speed driveshaft to a presentable condition based on your expectations and run that. You can always keep a eye out for the correct one. Don't hold your breath but keep a eye out . FYI there are quite a few people searching that I am aware of.

Hi -BOB we found in scrap pile on the back of hanger exactly the same shaft as you  show on your photo---however I do not seem to have enough clearance from exhaust--exhaust I have is from SCOTT FULLER. Drive shaft saga just does not go away, I am as confused as ever which shaft to use, the one I sent you photos is with Jack getting detailed, but know since I have tapered shaft do you suggest to get rid of straight shaft and use tapered---HEADACHE, thanks to put up with this. John
If there is not enough clearance maybe it is not exactly like the picture because it would normally fit otherwise. It is awfully coincidental that you would happen to have the correct hard to find driveshaft laying around the hanger. Excuse me for being skeptical but since the clearances are too tight given one of Scott's typical spot on exhaust it is more likely that it is not exactly the same CJ driveshaft . I hope I am mistaken. Ultimately the one like in the picture is assemblyline. Others that don't look like the picture being used on the 69/70 GT500 auto application would not be assemblyline. It is hard to know what you have, what is the problem and how to solve the problem on this side of the computer monitor.
