I am wondering if anyone can answer a question related to the San Jose firewall mat appearance.  While restoring a 1967 firewall pad for a project car, I have become interested in the purpose of a rectangular opening approximately 3.5" x 3.5" just above the fuse panel placement.  I have confirmed this opening now in three separate Mustang mats however have not been told the purpose yet.  Is this for a specific mustang or application, and is it appropriately open in a 1967 GT 500?  Any information is appreciated.

Looks like no one knows, I wonder the same thing. Sorry.

OK, so it's not an A/C related?

If this is what is being discussed, here is a pic from unrestored 1183, a 67412 car.  No A/C.

Yes it is.  Thank you.  After seeing several pictures of this perforated section missing, I wanted to know if it should be open or closed.  Thank you for the picture..
