Distributor shaft lower bushing play
« on: July 12, 2018, 08:18:07 PM »
How much shaft side play is allowed at the lower bushing. Can't feel any side to side at the top but there's a little at the bottom. I read somewhere that for a few years they didn't even use a lower bushing. It also seems that the bushings are no longer available either. Thanks. Brian

I can't answer your question directly, but I, too, thought I could replace my lower bushing.   I removed it and took it
to a distributor shop to replace.   Found the bushings are NLA and was told it's not really needed because the shaft
is already located at the bottom by the hole in the block.    I don't know how much play is there but I ran the car
that way for several years (sold the car later) and it ran fine and with no discernable play in the shaft at the top end.
