But he did take safety precautions...plastic was laid down so he didn't get salt on his clothes ;D

No, that was to protect the environment; to keep his blood off the salt when the jack fails!           :o

It looks kind of large, but the box shaped object may be the pedal box from which the brake and clutch pedals sprouted.

On closer inspection, the box thing looks like it has a drain plug.

The box, is the foot pedal and master cylinder enclosure. The "plug" is the end of the hollow shaft the foot pedal pivot about. The shaft goes all the way through the enclosure and is fixed in place with a internal hex cap screw. The large thing behind the box looks like a very large diameter exhaust pipe.  The size and location of the exhaust makes it seem the car has a set of ultra rare under car headers for a 427 Cobra. I just looked at pictures of the original factory headers for CSX3141 and a stubby pipe right there seems to make sense.

Don't know what you mean by write off on which party, but probably totaled in 1965.

Well, you can tell it isn't that trucks first rodeo, as someone knew how to "stitch" the tires in the stacking inorder to successfully acquire the overload in this truck; well somewhat successfully anyway.         ::)

And when overloaded, the wheel rims flex excessively and the hub caps won't stay on.   One reason the trucks most often were equipped with the "Dog-Dish" hub caps even if overloading wasn't counted on, other than just cost considerations.         :)
