68krrr,  wonder if this is the same car in a earlier life as the one in  your post #2835 ? same rear wheels, side pipes are different ?

Mike

reviewing my post above, and the comments by 2112 & tesgt350, how did I miss the flares  ::)  , I'm thinking this isn't the same

car as in post #2835 by 68krrr

Anyone recognize this car from 1974 Phoenix International raceway powered by a 351w. The car had no Shelby fender tag but I think it probably was a real GT 350. It was extremely quick.

6S1302. No "H" in the side stripe at least as early as 1974.

Got a box of gold GT 350 fender stripe kits from the Dallas dealership who restriped the sides as to hide their earlier rental status. Got them in 1978 from the Dallas contact I had there. Still have some. Jim Wicks saw similar "post warranty" work done in New York about the time in the Navy expired, so it was not unheard of for dealers to resort to such clean-up

    Tom,
6S477 is a white with blue side stripe Hertz car and it had a "patch' added where the H used to be. None of the other 17 built this way ( some due to repaints and not paying attention) Your information could be why they weren't "patched" like mine. BTW "others" simply had the H removed leaving a huge gap in the striping.

So,......... I guess one won't get far on an argument on whether the side-pipes were originally installed by S.A.I., but, should we open a discussion on the possible originality to the "LeMans" stripes?      ::)

I just wonder if the side pipes actually work.

Most of them are. Some are centered over the rear reflector/light, most aren't.

Those side pipes are supplied with four open primary tubes and three plugs that you can clamp on.

I knew of one 289 Cobra that had them and how dare you say that they weren't functional or suggest that they were only partially functional!

They are or were actually noticeably quieter then the current side pipes for the Corvettes and Cobra kit cars that you can get. Those often need to have inserts installed in them to take the edge off.
