Did the elephants hang out with camels?

Mike

That photo does look very much like Peru from a few photos I've seen. There are a few 1991 SAAC MKI's over there that I tracked down.
I believe there are only two R models that didn't migrate back to the USA; 5r211 and 5r540.

5r211 was reported as destroyed with the engine placed in 5r540. It was reported that a re-bodied car showed up in California many years ago, but nothing has resurfaced since then that I'm aware of.

5r540 was in a bad racing incident as pictured in the 2011 registry, but was rebuilt.
Could this be that car??? Any idea of the date when the photo was taken?

Rich, I found the photo on the Vintage Trans Am Race Cars V8-1966-1973  Face Book page, It's an open group, any one can see it,

but not post, you have to register.  didn't see a date but here's a link not sure if it will work ? It was posted six hours ago.

That worked for me!

It appears the '65 R model photo was posted by Luis Lamas. I have limited access to his Facebook page.
He owns the 1991 SAAC MKI 063.

We still don't know if it is 5r540, but there is the connection.
Here's another photo from his Facebook page from that link you shared
(THANKS)
I can't see if there are any other photos of the 'R' or if there are any of his SAAC MKI.

It is noted as a replica 'R' model.

http://www.ponysite.de/R_model_luislamas.htm

"On weekends I dedicate all my enthusiasm to my Shelby Mustang 350 R (replica). It is a part of my life, my family  and  most important. It carries me away  to my dreamland and memories. I try to spread to new generations what I mean this car has been for the national motorsports. Those times were unforgettable". Luis Lamas"
