Brings back memories of my daily driver 1977-1982. Looked like hell but very fun to drive. Previous owner had tossed the original boat anchor 312 and installed a '68 J-code 302 with Shelby intake, Holley 600, Ford dual point, and a T-10. Much better balanced with the 302, actually drove fine in the snow on just those skinny white walls...

Nancy Sinatra had a Boss 302 swapped into hers.

In 1970 Nancy and her husband Hugh Lambert sent the T-Bird to Hollywood legend George Barris. It was transformed into Yellow Bird and featured chromatic yellow paint, a yellow patent leather interior and had a brand new 1970 Mustang BOSS 302cid motor installed.

I noticed the crab distributor cap on the Sinatra car.

Back in the day I remember a couple of big blocks installed in the T-birds. One was a Chevy.

The cars themselves had issues with rusting out the rocker panels. My dad came close to buying my mom a Sunset Rose '57 with the porthole top but her favorite color was yellow. Neither ever happened for her.

Grumpy

we had a 390 in our 57  8) fun car at the time.

  A couple of 55 T-bird things:
1) the distributor cap above mentioned is from Mallory. (I think) Kind of cool anyway,
2) Back in the 60's the hot set-up was to drop a Ponticac 389 into a 'Bird.  Hot Rod mazine had a feature article about that.

The red one with the blown big block Chevy that was in Hot Rod (70s-80s?) belonged to a guy I knew. His mom got it new and when he turned 18 she gave it to him. Within a week it had a small block Chevy in it. He worked at the local speed shop so he had access to deals on parts. When he got another car - a 65 Chevelle 2 door wagon that needed an engine he took the SB out of the Bird and stuck it in the wagon. The Bird became his toy and that's when it got the big block - he did all the fab and body work himself. The last time he street raced it he lost badly (and got a ticket) so he retired it to a cruiser. What beat him was a pedestrian looking Maverick with a NA 351 Cleveland with a healthy dose of nitrous.

Yes Mallory - they were pitched for marine use. I still have one. Mine is stamped HP and designed for 7000 rpm rather than the normal 5000. Basically it just has heavier weight springs on the points.

The red Tbird was Rick King?

A Cleveland can be a killer. I remember the #1 Pro Stock Pinto. I had one in my 68 GT350 for a while but ran out of Sunoco 103 when they killed leaded pump gas.

I could never get it to run right again with unleaded.
