Any ideas on the CSX ? Shepard is the last name that was mentioned as the owner. This is at a gymkhana in the Kansas City area.

I looked through the registry (4th. edition) couldn't find that name in the lists of owners. Looks to have a sponsor decal on the

front fender.

no shirts required as well as helmets  ::)

The Cobra photo above suggests that the photographer was Shepard (see lower left corner). Looking quickly at the Princess Blue 289s with red interiors, few were in or around the Kansas City area. But there was one, CSX 2305, owned by Dr. John Johnson, and he was known to autocross the car and enter other speed events. While there is no way to say for certain (unless someone who knew him can say, yeah, that's him driving) I'm going with the car pictured as possibly being 2305. However, I now note that Johnson's car was given chrome wire wheels and lacked a luggage rack. So the only other car that immediately comes to mind is CSX 2205, which was a sales promotion Cobra for the Kansas City sales district. And it had the rack, painted wire wheels, and a radio, which the car in the photo seems to have if the blurry lump at the right rear of the cockpit is an antenna.

CobraNed, thanks for your reply on the Cobra pic. I found the blog (took awhile, I always say I will note where I found things, but

some how never do  ::) where this was posted) the poster whose name is in the bottom left corner, says it's his parents in the car,

perhaps they were just driving it for some one else ?

Does a better quality example of this picture exist?  According to Colin Comer's book, CSX3336 was converted to a drag car know as The Ravager, current whereabouts unknown.  I can make out what looks to be an 'ER' on the side of this car, so maybe this is it.

Mike
I just done the 1966 to 2020 dollar difference from then to now.
$20,000 in 1966 is equal to $161,000 today. So now considering that it was just a race car back then, FF to 2020 and it would still be just a race car in comparison, the $$ is about right.

The GT350 of $4530 in 1966 is equal to $36,500 today.  So, thats about right since we know that a new car in 2020, like a Mustang GT is close to that dollar range of $36K, keep in mind that the 66 GT350 is still just a car in 1966.   A 2020 Shelby GT500 roughly about $72K in 2020 to me is over time buying the Shelby name and the reason for the price upcharge. Maybe this shot will work?  A photo of CSX 3336 from the online Registry, taken next to the same camper:

Answer for Honker: Mike, we have no record of a Shepard as having owned a 289 Cobra, so accessing the car that way is a dead-end. :(

A shepard like for sheep? BAAAH?

Surprising that car hasn't shown up in all of these years? It was pretty well known at the time.

Wow, thanks Ned.  My understanding is that is/was the only 427 car with red interior, and one of only two that did not have black interior.
