Ford Design Concepts for the 1967 Fastback Mustang
« on: August 16, 2018, 05:18:08 PM »
This is probably old news to many here, but its new to me, so I am sharing with those like me that have not seen these concepts before. Especially  the trunk air brake operated with cougar components. The rear spoiler sure looks familiar

I love this stuff. This is my favorite of the Mustang Concepts. CHECK OUT THE DESIGNERS' NAME.

Don't forget these two sketches (I can post larger photo if wanted) of the second version of this concept car.

THANKS Richstang!
I too really like these type of hand sketches. Can you  help with the name? My images came from the internet and they are not clear. Also, how did you get yours? If you look at yours and the ones I found on the internet, they must be a lot more somewhere. What do you think?

It's Chuck McHose, the 1967 Shelby Chief Designer.

Too bad these are not dated. I've never found any other sketches for it
(I constantly search for all concept and styling photos related to Mustang's and Shelby's.)

Have you seen the color photos? Such a great deep candy metallic red!

There is also the Mustang Milano

Looks like it has a version of the Rader spoked wheels planned for the G Cougars.

The Milano is my second favorite Mustang Concept, but that's not based on the 1967 fastback (per the thread title).

Thanks Richstang;
Have not seen those either. I keep thinking that there must be LOTS of hand sketches or concept drawings out there. I want to think that it's like all those vintage Disney cell or hand sketches that are supposed to be completely under lock and key but seem to keep showing up on EBay.
I have seen good examples of where movie star's have autographed promo pictures  where you can see great detail of the cars in the back ground. It could be a new source of historic car pictures.

All the concepts are really cool.

And, let me just say...I'm SOOOOOOO glad they went with the final 67 design  ;D.
Nothing beats a classic!

You got that right! Some of the Mustang development studies are unbelievably bad.
Although, there were a few '67 ideas that were interesting.

Here's a few bad ones early on for the '67 design;

Thanks for sharing, these are good examples of how a “close or similar”design can be end up being so different. And in these examples that difference would have changed the mustangs popularity, which would have changed our cars. I doubt that rocker or Le Mans stripes could have saved Some of those concepts  ;)

Interesting that the rear finned tail panel was used in a lot of the concepts and so few were actually ordered with it.

Here's a few side views full size sketches that show some influence from the Barracuda.
We can also see some studies were used elsewhere on future designs like the 68 Torino.
This last one looks suspiciously like a 70 Camaro/Firebird?
