1965 GT350 in Hemmings

Hi guys this is my first topic. I'm from Switzerland and know this car. It is not the original car. The body is from a 66 single exhaust car! The Shelby VIN badge is not original! No part of this Mustang is original Shelby. There are also no original parts by car. The owner says he is in the registry but he is no longer the current owner it is a man from Germany! I'm sure there are two cars with the same number. But at least the Shelby and the Ford number match.

Thanks for the insight.  $220,000 firm is a whole lot of peanuts for a Shelby with a 'structurally modified unibody' (rebody).  :(

In case the original link goes away, the car is listed as Ford vin 5R09K217630 and Shelby SFM 5S354.

The relative relationship between those two numbers is plausible, but boy is that a poor job. Racking would have been easy, the stars less so, and stamping them by press would have been doable. That picture is laughable.

The ad coyly alludes that a '65 GT-350 could qualify for an FIA HTP. But it does not directly state that this car possesses an HTP. An HTP is valuable and difficult to obtain.
The entire presentation appears amateurish.

It's not difficult to get HTP papers! I have a friend who looks at the cars for the FIA. He d'ont look if the car an original! The papers must also be renewed again and again. With this one gets no more new FIA papers! For example, aluminum radiators and electronic ignition are not allowed. Belts, seat, tank must be renewed when the date is exceeded. Most racing cars are not original cars like this one (also has FIA HTP papers:

I placed the ad in Hemmings and other media, as I am helping an ill friend to sell his car.
After all the information we got on its originality, I cancelled the offer in Hemmings and other media.
What I can say: The actual owner bought the car in good faith as an original Shelby 350 G.T. We never had the intention of cheating a future, new owner.

Thanks for your input here on the thread. It is unfortunate to hear that the current owner was misled into thinking something different from reality about the car.

Your honesty in taking the ad down is appreciated from those on the forum though...and I think I can say that all of use here on the forum certainly wish your ill friend well.

Back in 2003 1999 the previous owner Erwin Derichs told me this below. Erich had a rather good reputation in racer circles and serviced many others in a very helpfull manner as well. I'd rather guess he got a misrepresented car himself that wasn't doubted for a very long time then or it has been rebodied at some time later on?

" I was at that time in close contact to an American guy and we often talked about Mustangs. In 1988 he called me one day and said `Hey Erwin, didn't you tell me that you are keen on racing a Mustang. I've just got four of them in my stable. Shall I send them?`Well, I asked him to send only one for the moment and it was the Shelby GT350 I still own today, the VIN is SFM5S354. This is the story of how I came across Mustangs. Later the other Hardtop joined our team."
