Need 1965 hipo C4 “C” servo cover
« on: August 26, 2018, 06:54:47 PM »
Want to buy or trade for a 1965 Hipo C4 automatic “C” servo cover.  I have a 66 “C” servo cover I would trade + or -,  or just buy your 65 part.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts, ideas. Here’s a picture of the 66 unit that I currently have. Sorry, it’s a little dirty, it is still on the transmission.
Thanks! Karl

Did you make your trade or do you want to sell 66 C Servo?

Hi Karguy,

I might have trade for you.  Checking now.  I have a buddy with a fat "C" servo that may want to have the skinny "C" servo.  His car should have the skinny "C".  I will get back to you as soon as I hear from him and put you two together.

Unfortunately 6s281 does not have the original C4 automatic transmission. I do have a documented hipo C4 out of a later model (6s1669) 66 Hertz car that has all c6 casting part numbers. 281 was built at San Jose in the middle of October 65, an early 66 production, I have recently located 6S273 here in my hometown of Albuquerque, it has been hidden away since the early 70s. 273 is about 20 Ford vin numbers away from 281, it is also a factory automatic car.  The 85 year oldgentleman who owns it has invited me to do a thorough inspection on it as soon as his wife is feeling better, hopefully soon.  I have confirmed with him that the C4 transmission in 273 is the original unit. I will photograph and document it and report back on this thread as soon as I am positive it is a c5 or c6 parts numbered trans and servo cover. Should be interesting.
Thanks, Karl

I am not sure why you feel so strongly that 6S 281 should have a C5 servo cover instead of a C6. Other then a early production 66 it is not a like a carry over that had all 65 parts with the exception of the 66 regular production parts. I for one have not heard of the C5 servo cover being used on a 66 . Let us know what you find out.

Did a quick check and found I've got pictures (likely some that were posted here before the crash) from 6S701 with the C5TP servo cover. Hard to read the tag date - will give it another try in the morning. Its a bit dirty in the picture but shows what appears to be a latye 65 date.

Need to look through and see if I have others.

Bob, you may be right, I am anxious to get a good look at 6s273, that should be definitive.
It would certainly be easier for me if it is C6 part numbers as I already have that Hipo c4.  I will certainly let you know what I find out when I can look at 273.
Thanks, Karl

I realize this does not mean that the transmission cast part numbers are c6 pieces but the picture I have posted is from a K Code automatic non Shelby fastback that was built approximately 55 ford numbers prior to 281.  This particular car was built first week of October 65 and it’s hipo c4  appears to of been assembled August 10 of 65.
Thanks

Did you post this picture before? Seem to have a copy of it

Have a tag (same assembly date as the one you show) on another Hipo C4 with the fat C and the engineering number starting with C5. That car had a projected build date of last day of Sept 1965 at San Jose.

Jeff,
I did actually post a picture of that tag a while back, I was trying to decode the other letters stamped on it and yes it was on a K code from SA with a projected build date of Sept 30. Do you have the picture that shows the tag and also the C5 part number on the servo cover? I’m beginning to wonder if I edited the original photograph I was given to show the tag and discarded the original that may have shown the servo cover.
Thanks very much, Karl

6S477 has a C5TP cover. It is important for ALL to remember that a casting number didn't change simply because the year did. There HAD to be a change made to the part for the casting number to change.

. I for one have not heard of the C5 servo cover being used on a 66 . Let us know what you find out.
That’s interesting. And all my research of the two servo covers I found that they were used clearly into the 900 cars and probably a little bit beyond. I would say it would be a good but general line to say cars built 1000 and up probably have the C6 cover and prior had C5.
