GT 500 Automatic Shifter Question
« on: September 03, 2018, 06:42:10 PM »
Hey Guys

Happy Labor Day!

I am familiar with the extra piece that was welded into the auto shifter, but what is this bolt for?  It has no threads at the end and fits into the small hole
in the base.  It appears to be some type of detent.  Was this added by a PO or added by SA?

Thanks
Ron

There is a stop bolt but the one in the picture has been substituted for the original one. I believe it is tightened or loosened with a Allen key. FYI the special shifter assembly(including stop bolt) was not added at SA . It was added on the Ford assemblyline.

Thanks Bob and Jeff for the info!
Here are a couple of more pics.  For a homemade fix, someone spent some time adding the hex head and detailed tip.
Do you happen to have a pic of an original stop bolt?

Guess I should clarify - sorry for any confusion on my part.

The "lock" nut IMHO appears to be added/a home made fix for the adjustment threaded section either because they were having a problem with it or someone just assumed the addition would be a better idea

The threaded shaft and insert to be like other originals I've seen. Will post a few pictures in a little while

Here are a couple of shots of one in the car you can make out the end of the insert and the cross hatch pattern (well one channel) in the outer threaded section

Hope this helps

Is that a plastic washer inside?  What is the name and where can I get one?

Think that is a nylon bushing. Think most catalog companies carry the, try automatic shifter bushing or something similar

Got everything back together and installed. However, I am still trying to locate the c6 shift rod.

I also refurbished the emergency brake mechanism and added a new handle.

I noticed today that the transmission has a broke bolt in it (one of the two that goes to the transmission mount)  Good grief!  Any ideas on how to get it out?
