looking for recommendation on tires for 6s1164. I have original magnum 500 wheels and plan on driving the car and wanted to get some suggestions on what everyone is using. Thanks

I'm using BFG radial TA 225\60\14 very successfully. For my taste, the 215\60 little too small & 235\60 little too large. Plus the 225\60\14 works very well with the 1" Shelby drop. I have two 1966 FB & Convertible clone cars and one GT-350. All three have the 10 spoke wheels @ 14".
The actual GT-350 I purchased recently has 235\60\14 all around but the car did not have the 1" drop. Doesn't seem to have any clearance issues. Still after my restoration is completed will go with 225\60\14 BFG. To my knowledge they are the only tire manufacturer offers this size.
My 2 cents! Fred

I have also been using BFG radial TA's on my '66 Shelby because I couldn't really find any decent alternatives. I'm running the 225/60/14 up front and 235/60/14 on the rear. The wider rears give the car a more aggressive stance that I was looking for. I have also had no clearance issues with them.

i've posted about this before, but if cost is no object, the 215/70X14 Michelin XWX is the best tire on the market and fills the wheel wells perfectly . . .  if they're good enough for a Ferrari, they're good enough for a Shelby!

Continuing this thread with another question:  Using original 10-spokes, we have 205/70x14 on all four including the spare (also a 10-spoke).  Therein lies the "rub": Would really like to go with something like the 225/60x14 or 215/60x14 but any wider tire is not going to fit in the trunk.  (we're already just making contact with the trapdoor handle now.)  Who's using a wider tire on a 10-spoke spare and how'd you make it fit?

Since I'm not getting any response with regard to getting a wider tire than a 205/70 on a 10-spoke fitting in the trunk, let me go the other direction.  Is anyone out there using a 195/70x14?  Granted, it's not the "hot set-up" but the overall diameter, tread width and section width on this size appear to come closer to the 6.95x14 than any other and there would be no problem of it fitting in the trunk.  There are a number of choices out there, too.  If you've got 'em, pics would be appreciated.

Edward, thanks but I've got all the dimensions, specs, comparison charts, etc.  Right now, I'm just trying to find someone who's using 195/70x14's on original 10 spokes.

205/70/14 BGF T/A radials. I hate em, but I'm too cheap to pop for 775x14 bias plys.

ZRAY, I'll save you the time (I know you have stock in Avon!)  if I may be so bold and speak for you.

Z says to buy the CR6ZZ. He will tell you it's the best money you will spend on your car. If you can afford a Shelby you can afford 1500 dollars for these tires.

NC TRACKRAT

Sadly, the only CR6ZZ available in 14 inch is a 185/70x14.

Stan,

I was able to use a D70R/14 on an original 10 spoke as a spare which I believe is very close to 195/70R-14. Very tight but did work.

I agree, wish Avon made the CR6ZZ wider in 14"...

I put that size on two '66 GT350's using the 10 spokes one of them and the Magnums on the other one. Their was no rubbing and no modifications were made  to the wheel well.

The Pirelli ( P-4 ?? ) was  made in that size long ago, and it was a great improvement over the BFG Radial TA. Gone but not forgotten.

zray-Thanks for the input. Yes, the Pirelli P4 was a good tire.  Back in the mid-'80's, I attended a 3-day driver's school at the Nurburgring in a loaner 5-Series BMW shod with the P4 and they held up well.
