1965 Daytona

Hola Tony,
That was a fun event....Planning on attending this coming Saturday Car and Coffee at Casavana Rest. @ Town and Country Shopping Ctr. Maybe you can make it too. The owner of the Ford GT, that was next to my car, is also going to try to make it.
Take care,
Herb

Saw Bullitt on the big screen at last minute this evening.  It was 20 minutes before the start and I decided to leave work and go watch.  Well worth seeing on the big screen.  Never saw on a large screen before.  Movie still holds up after all these years.  Now it's a good snapshot of how things were in 1968, like the old tech heart monitor and the primitive fax machine.
"Low she sits on five spoke wheels
Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

Saw it on the big screen in LA. At the time of it's initial release, I had zero concept of 50 years in the future, let alone 6 months.

Like a classic film, picked up more details and reminders how life has changed in the past half century. One thing hasn't though. McQueen's Highland Green Mustang fastback, shaved and rolling on Ameican Racing mags looks as fresh today as it did in 1968.

As for driving, the chase set the standard for the rest that followed.

Plus, did you note the real driving skill test? McQueen drives down a one-way downhill street to parallel park on the left side. He pulls even with the car in front, and smoothly backs into the spot as if he were driving an automatic. And the car he parked in front of was a white Austin-Healey 3000.

Yes, I did notice that park job. Outstanding!  Younger years I was all about the chase to the exclusion of everything else.  I was 5 years old when the movie came out so I found it later in the mid 70s.  It is a great mob movie.
