It is a 9" ford and that is about all I know other than its a HiPo large drain plug housing and tapered axle tubes.

Looks like a WAR case.

Not a WAR case. It's a standard single rib case. It could be out of just about anything. According to the casting date codes, it's for a 66 model.

Don't think that is accurate.  WAR has double ribs but not as strong as nodular due to material.

I'm told this is an original 66 Shelby GT350 rear.  The rear housing is HiPo with tapered axle tubes and and large drain hole bolt.  No fill in the 3rd member.  Just trying to confirm if thats accurate.

may be hipo tube  .  youd have to measure  the tube diameters,  lots of repos have been made.  as for shelby.  no way to tell unless it had override traction bar brackets welded to it.  Im looking at my records of date codes and I show override cars up to Late 5L  castings so Id have to say  no  on being shelby

Standard duty single rib case cast in Oct of '65 for the '66 model run. externally the diff looks correct for a Galaxie , Fairlane or Mustang with the 289 hi po. Pictures of the axle housing could help ID it for you.

I was informed this is for 6S1078 with under ride and I know the car was built right at the end of 65.  I took a couple of pictures of the housing after much pressure washing.  It has the hump and large drain plug and I confirmed that the carrier is an Equa-Lock.

The large tube is approx 3" the small tapper tube looks to be around 2 9/32"

Also, the car has a T10M transmission.

It appears to be missing the 66 only pinion snubber shield.

A young man in the midwest sold me a nice Snubber Shield to go on it  :)

   Greg,
The housing looks to be the genuine article and correct for an under ride car. The welds that join the tubes to the center look right. Despite having what looks like organic linings ( a common switch back then), they do appear to be 2-1/2 wide. It was obvious (to me anyway) in your first pictures that the diff had been out and painted and is probably about the time the shroud was left off. Nice find.
