All 68 GT mustangs (non-Shelby) have tachometers?

I recently purchased a 68 GT fastback (302) project and it came with a few clusters- including one with a 6k tach.  The car is not a Shelby but I figured many of you also diversify your mustang habit and may know if the tach's were standard feature or an option on the GT's?  It doesn't show specifically on the Marti report but I'm not sure it would.

Tach not standard on a regular 1968 GT Mustang, would have been an option. I believe the only model that tach would have come standard with would be a 1968 1/2 GT 428CJ with 4-speed transmission(8 grand). I would also think it would be called out as an option on the Marti report.

Have a J code 68 GT which originally (still doesn't) didn't come with a tach.

I had done a few google searches and info was all over the place so I turned to this more trusted source! Thank you very much, maybe the last owner was looking to do an upgrade.

I had a 68 "S" code 4-speed non-GT Mustang a while back. It was Factory equipped with a 8K tach.

Does it have a dash wire harnes? Is it a Tach harness?

I would start there.

I seem to recall my '68 GT J-code having a tach. I just assumed it was standard equipment.

I had a 68 GT (390 / 4-speed) had the factory 8K tach.

Not 100% sure...but I recall all 390 4spd cars (and of course the CJ 4spds) came standard with tach
All else had to be optioned for tach.
My original 390 GT C6 doesn't have a tach

If CrossBoss Scott's car is an original 4 speed it came standard with a 6K tach and will not be called out as an extra cost option. Same goes for a 390 car but both could be optioned with an 8K and in this case will be called out. There is also some speculation that 6K were substituted with 8K but need more reports and invoices on that point. He also has a 9 inch rear end and that was GT specific. Drop the GT pack and the J code is back to a small 8 rear for a Mustang.
