What Engine Coolant/Anti Freeze To Use?
« on: November 11, 2018, 09:34:55 PM »

Just wondering, what Engine Coolant/Anti Freeze, for our Shelby's, is recommended?

My cooling system, is drained and flushed, and I'm not too sure what is the best to use,
as there seems, to be a number, of products, all claiming, to be the best for early cars.

Any thoughts?   Thank you in advance, for any information.

Regardless of brand, I prefer a 50/50 mix in addition to a quart of "Motor Max" (similar to water wetter) for 1584.

I've been using PEAK for many years with excellent results to both Iron and Aluminum.

Peak has a 5 year antifreeze.  So, less mess making.

That's what I was interested in, since our engines have aluninium intakes, iron heads/blocks
and brass tanks and copper cores in the radiators. A lot of dissimilar metals.

I buy the concentrate and mix it, 50/50, with distilled water.

      Just wondering, what others use.

I have always used Zerex G-05, 50/50, has the proper HOAT additives for vintage cooling systems.

I've used this product in all my classics for the past 18 - 20 years. It provides the exact protection of traditional antifreeze, without being attractive to pets (it isn't "sweet" tasting). My cars have and are running at the same identical temperature as when I was using regular antifreeze.  It does cost a few pennies more, but well worth it, IMHO.  If you don't see it in your local auto parts store, have them order it. Always arrives same or next day.

Been putting in in numerous customers classics as well. Zero issues.

Mark, the prep you have to do to switch over is not an easy task. Read the instructions online. Read them get carefully
