The LA paper is full of Shelby license plate numbers...do you have a way to track them?

Why did the California classifieds put the license plate number in the ads? Was that required? The Brits do that too. Strange?

I haven't kept up with the changes in the laws but Mr.Pardee ran into an issue with the California DMV while doing research on Shelby owners in California for the Registry. The first Registry in '82. As it turns out they have an anti-stalking law and the DMV can't give you owners info from a license plate.

If you are filing a hit and run complaint against another motorist for instance, you have to give that information to your insurance company. I think a licensed Private Detective can get the information also. Individuals cannot get it legally to my knowledge.

I'm not sure exactly what the issue is/was with that, where the legislature felt compelled to pass this law? Many if not most celebs are advised to have their cars registered to a holding company or a LL corp and only shows the name and address of the corp. Cosby's Cobra was registered like that.

Having grown up in LA, and eagerly reading the cars-for-sale ads every Sunday in the Times, I heard that the requirement for either a license plate or a VIN was to cut down on the car dealer "bait and switch" advertising about a car that didn't actually exist, or maybe they only had one at that low low low price.
Current:
2006 FGT. Tungsten. Whipple, HRE 20s, Ohlin coil-overs, 3.90 gears. 210.7 mph.

Kirkham Cobra. 482-inch aluminum side-oiler. Tremec 5-spd.

Formerly:
1968 GT500KR #2575 (1982-2022)
1970 Ranchero GT 429
1969 LTD Country Squire 429
1963 T-Bird Sport Roadster
1957 T-Bird E-model 3-spd stick

If the plates stay with a car through it's entire California life, then I suppose that system could work. Here in NY the plates are kept by the previous owner and often would go on the replacement vehicle.

Too bad that old Chet didn't have a larger advertising budget.  ;D

With your expertise maybe you can help. The two Shelby dealers here in Alberta were: Healy Motors in Edmonton (the Edmonton Journal), and Metro Ford in Calgary (Calgary Herald). #2766 was one of only three 500 convertibles delivered to Alberta in 68. Try as I might I have not found a Shelby ad in either paper. If you had the chance would you give it a shot? Thanks in advance.

69-2524, since 1992
