Glad [to at least try] to help. i was fortunate to have a teen aged tech-happy son around the house when I first tried to do this stuff  ;D

What's the story on this pic of Carroll with a red Cobra, looks a bit like Masten Gregory to me ? Is it Riverside ?

Kranky ? ?

JD

...does look like Masten Gregory they were friends, drove and traveled around the European race circuits in the mid-to-late 50's together.

It's hard to say to who is exactly driving the Cobra....it does look like Masten G. as mentioned by JD (possibly with a borrowed helmet, since most photos seem to show Masten G. with a silver helmet/white visor).  The Cobra is 2002....this might be part of a photo shoot and there was a color Magazine article out there showing a road test of this Cobra (2002) in period at Riverside.

The location appears more like Pomona Raceway which used the parking lots and drag strip in the layout.

IMO this is RIR.  The camera angle may be deceiving.  Note the banked turn (9) in the background. And the half-buried white tires that's one of RIR's trademarks.

I wonder who the photog was? Doesn't look like Friedman.

There were several streets of old rural-type houses with tall trees (lots of eucalyptus and cottonwoods) to the far rear of Turn Nine, outside of track property, as can be seen (I'm pretty sure that's RIR) in the photo.

But, I was too young to have been at RIR when that photo was taken (1963?) so I can't swear to it.

Mr. "98 SVT - was 06 GT" might be able to help us here.

I wrote on the map of RIR where the houses and trees were.  The small red dot is approximately where the Cobra was, but you will need to adjust your mind's compass to look from the north toward the south...the opposite of the map's orientation.

September 1965 for the 500.  June 1965 for the Sprints.  Great photos by the way.

I'll add this video of the 1963 Road America, not the best film quality but worthwhile.

guy pushing on the roll bar have an Airforce logo on his shoulder ?
