Its not leftovers, to the best of my knowledge.

If you zoom in , you can actually identify some of the cars. Its the holding lot for AOSmith on Main Street in Ionia.

Facebook might night be a good place for Shelby research.

I certainly cant compete with FB, but it was just a week ago some idiot was posting  “dealer” paperwork he copied off the website and forged to support his 1967 Shelby.

It happens. I think I have seen more pictures than the average fellow....

The only large  pic I have seen of Shelbys being converted was Larry Lawrance's aerial view of KK showing boss 429s and Shelbys in their lot. Larry lent out the pic and never got it back. BTW after talking to Claude DuBois who was the Shelby dealer for Europe I have come to NOT call them "leftovers" as he once told me when he found out that the program was ending he ordered a bunch(as 70s)  so he would have models to sell in the 1970 year and then created his own Shelby Europas for 71. Gary
BTW Larry paid a pilot to shoot the photo. My favorite KK Shelby photos show Larry painting the WIDE stripes on a 70 Shelby thus confirming mine were correct. I met Larry a few years ago at his bodyshop in Brighton Mi. He said he had a lot more photos of KK. Also he also shot the KK video you might have seen.   https://www.facebook.com/BrightonAreaHistoricalSociety/videos/2461333023315/

I got some of the 70 shelby black hood  stripe  templates here that came from larry l. back in the 80s that were leftover from the 70 shelby program.

He has a lot more photos? Is there a special time he is waiting for to share them?

Awesome photos, I hope he will share more of them.

Is the second photo a staged photo of painting the stripes? It doesn't look like the rest of the car or windshield is covered to protect it from over spray, that could be a real mess to clean up.

Also it doesn't look like the area around the turn signal is blacked out....yet....weren't they blacked out to the front edge of the light.

I should stop by and see him. I finally met him a few years ago at his body shop. He wasn't in the greatest of health. My friend Mark Haas and I talked to him for a little while. His wife runs their shop now on Grand River not too far from the original KK plant. Mark talked to him about scanning his pics for him and was going to get back with Larry but as far as I know he hasn't yet. Time flies and I think I need to stop in and see him as I pretty much pass within a few miles of his shop everyday . Gary

Turn signal blackout would have been done at AO Smith. All Larry did as a 19 year old  painter was paint Boss 429 hood scoops and the Shelby hood stripes. While there are templates around there is now much evidence by original cars and Larry's photo above that the front "tip" of the stripes varied as a narrow "fang" version that the template created and the wider "better flow" version I had on my car and have seen on survivor cars also. Also even the tape off for the headlight buckets around the hood tie down brackets varied from car to car and even from side to side as witness on Larry Quay's original paint car. Also in the pic below this is one of the last cars to leave KK in the spring of 1970. My eyes tell me that the car has sized tires on it. I blew up the pic many years ago and just cannot fully say yes. I believe my Shelby left KK with sized tires on it by original photos of my car and with all the problems with the F-60s it is very much plausible that sized tires could have left KK on some Shelbys for a variety of reasons(Theft, cannibalization for Bosses etc). I wonder if anyone could enhance the photo below to see the lettering more clearly on the pass rear?

Here is one for you; My friend Bill Cook's dad's 69 Gt500 in 1969. Notice the end caps have no black paint on them???? Notice the M plate? He dad was a regional sales rep at Ford I believe.

Notice the quarter roof emblems also on this pic and a later car. F-60-15. The pictures I have found in the last 10 years to me are worth a thousand words. :)

Don't wait...before it's too late for one reason or another. If your friend who offered to scan the photos can't go with you then go anyway and make the same offer. Ask for a few at a time, and return them every week or so for the next batch if there's a large quantity. You know it's a rare opportunity, don't miss it.

These are all terrific photos that are nice too see again on forum 2.0. Thanks for posting them.
