Under Dash Wires?

There are two wires under the dash that have puzzled me for quite some time. Anyone know what these wires are for?

A single black wire behind the instrument cluster that has some kind of a spade tip on it.

A bright green wire under the dash just left of the steering column.

Thanks in advance, Denny

Is one for the underdash interior light? But I guesss if that's plugged in then I am at a loss

The green yellow wire is an interior light circuit, which would be used for a center console.

Still pondering the black one

Thanks, that makes sense regarding the center console wiring. One mystery solved.

Im wondering if the black one is modified? Possibly an eyelet originally?

Good question, when I have a chance I'll try to trace its exact origin. Thanks

Coralsnake

I suspect it was originally an eyelet and its connected to the headlight switch. Would have been used for fog lights if the car was so equipped (in this case- not)

Is the black wire plugged into an accessory junction or part of the main wiring harness?  The only similar type of wire I can think of is for the instrument cluster voltage regulator.

I concur w/Charles.  Important to note that the terminal has molded insulation, not dipped or wrapped, as though it were a part of the factory harness.

So far he has not reported anything on the dash that does not work. The IVR wire has smaller jump offs...

I just took a look at an IVR on the back of a spare instrument cluster.  One terminal is a .250" spade and the other is a .250" receptacle.  The terminal on Denny's black wire is a .250" receptacle. But, as you say, if everything is working, that eliminates the IVR.

Thanks so much your replies on the Forum and input as to this single wire issue, I appreciate it. The next time I pull the dash and radio out to have a look around, I'll be tracing the wire back to the loom to see where it originates. I'll refresh this post after that. As of now, I don't have any desire to pull it apart again. My fault for not looking further last time. Everything electrical is working as it should, so this wire must be used for an accessory I don't have. THANKS! Denny

If its hanging, you might check to see when (if) its hot.

Definitely check to see if it is hot.  Possibly for the windshield wiper motor?  Have the
wipers been checked for operation?

6S1568

Yes, the very first thing I did was to check the wire to see if it was "HOT", and NO its not. Checked with key off, and key on, and engine running, no voltage.

What about factory air conditioning, did the assembly line wiring harness have wiring built in for air controls?

Thanks, Denny
