The tank recall gas cap wasnt  a stant cap it was a non vented EF cap  Emerson Fuller  & the ford service replacement was different DOAZ.

Problem is the original non vented cap wasnt serviced by ford & its a gm vendor cap. There is a smaller diameter gas cap for small filler necks. The doaz-A cap is the service replacement & it works fine but is a little different design & vendor change. The dooz-a cap is for the ca- evap system fillerneck.  The correct stant cap  g30 is the original vented type cap.

Same part# but looks different here:

Different neck used on California emission cars than the fuel vapor recall/campaign cars- looking through my pictures  ::)

Notice Marcus referenced Cougars for the cap he shows in that picture. Not sure if he was referencing Cougars with California emissions but would guess so but he does mention the longer depth of the cap for that application.

Pictures I have for the D0AZ-9030-A are service replacements that match the picture in reply #5 and what Ed was mentioning (service replacements) in his post above.

If I am to understand previous statements ,the DOAZ cap is supposed to fit a regular 69/70 Shelby filler neck because it is a service replacement. The DOAZ cap like what Marcus has in his article will not fit the regular Mustang /Shelby filler neck. Maybe Marcus had one misboxed but it is doubtful. It has too tall of a neck as mentioned in the article on the backside compared to a regular vented cap on a 69/70 Shelby.  I had one recently new in the box that I sold to West Coast Cougars because it would not fit any regular filler neck 69/70 Shelby.I have had a couple of them that I had purchased because the MPC number was has it supposed to be a regular replacement for 69/70 Shelby. I have a hard time believing I was so unlucky to have all three mis boxed because even though the MPC calls out for it as a replacement it will not fit. All I can say is that to pre test it on a regular filler neck before purchasing otherwise you may have a unpleasant surprise.

No . All the ones I have had look like the DOAZ cap in the article Marcus authored (link in reply#7) .

The cap in marcus article photo is 2  1/4'' od small type cap. The vented stant cap & the FE non vented (recall type) caps are 2 1/2'' OD .  The depth of the gas caps are different depending on application also .

Here is a picture of the "recall" (I have the rerouted venting in the trunk as well) cap on my 1970 GT500.  Is this correct?

Correct not vented recall cap not serviced by ford.  The fairlane torino gas cap is the smaller 2 1/4'' cap.
