I need some advice on where to start the diagnosis for my broken fuel gauge. I installed a new sender recently but now the gauge stays on full while the car is running.

Where should I start to get this thing reading correctly?

Thanks!

Does it go back to E when disconnected? If so you may have got the float hung up on way in. You may have to take it out ground the sender and run float up and down and see if gauge moves. Keep in mind it moves slow.

Check the wire that attaches to the sender for bare spots.  Sounds like it's grounding somewhere.  Possibly melted and shorted on the exhaust.

Is your fuel tank painted?

It's not painted. I'll check the wires first and then go from there.
