That is pretty good!   I wonder if he would have the same reaction with this one!

IMO, anyone over 40-ish growed up chomping at the bit to drive a manual tranny.  Man, I couldn't wait!!  I actually took the lame 3 sp AT out of my first car and went through the pains of putting a 4 speed in.

The Millenials, Generation Z crowd, etc.,  for the most part, don't even know what a stick shift is.  Most have heard of them but never seen one and really don't care.  Hell, most don't even want to drive at 16, they'd rather their Mommies or Daddy's take them everywhere.

Times sure have changed.

My daughter is 18 and when she was younger she saw dad driving a MT so she was always bugging me to teach her to drive one.  When she was 15 and working on getting her drivers licence I took her out a ton of times in my 2007 Shelby GT-H 5 spd stick and she had the experience of driving a MT (man those were herky, jerky drives with lots of stalls).  She now owns a little Suzuki with a MT.  She drivers herself everywhere and for me, it's awesome.
Guess I raised my daughter well.

QSS I did the same thing with my older two daughters.  My oldest now drives a MT in here daily driver.  All her friends including guys are so impressed.  I think she loves the attention.

I love rowing through the gears in my Cobra Jet whenever I take it out for a bun roast. However, for daily driving, stop and go traffic and the daily commute to work, give me the automatic every time.

My niece turned 15 last Friday. I offered to teach her how to drive with one caveat - she had to learn on a stick. She's always up for a challenge so she said yes.

We've already had a turn on our UTV over a little course I set up so she could get the basics of handling a vehicle and the next step is the tractor so she can get the feel of the clutch. Once she's mastered that I will put her in the 2009 Bullitt. If she successfully masters all of these and shows me that she has the interest, then it's behind the wheel of the Shelby. We'll see how far she gets!

I learned at 14. I never had a vehicle with an automatic transmission until I was in my mid to late 20's. I even took my driver's test in a vehicle with a manual transmission. I wound up with a 99. I guess she couldn't allow a 16 year old 100%.

Just saw a review of the 2020 GT-500 - auto only - no manual?

"I'm out" due to the fact that there is no manual and that silly little rotary shift wheel on the center console.  Paddle shift is fine but you gotta have an optional stick for the purists.  Isn't the target market for the GT500 the 45 year old and up demographic who has the money to spend on this type of car?  The majority in that demographic would like to row through the gears on a stick.  Am I wrong?

What am I missing?

Haven't many of the high power exotics gone into electric paddle shift autos for sometime now?
