GT350 Emblems
« on: February 02, 2019, 02:48:43 PM »
All of the GT360 emblems, dash, grille, fenders, and trunk lid. They were originally plastic, correct?
Metal would be reproduction?
 Thanks

Yes, What I've been told before.  Kind of counterintuitive to what you might think.

Yes, and for those not understanding the plastic vs metal portion being referred to is the chrome bases that the emblems are placed into.

Here is a fender emblem chromed Plastic Base and the Aluminum insert.

It is one of the few examples where the reproduction (chromed metal vs plastic chrome) is better then the original IMHO.

I didn’t mean to include the fender emblems as I was just questioning the other one, either way thanks again for the clarification. There is one on eBay saying NOS. No packaging and it’s metsl. I thought about an extra for the price, but prefer more original.

Thanks

I have originals (plastic) on my dash and grille...Weather isn’t kind to these things, the chrome on the plastic flakes off.My dash one looks great, the grille one ,not so much...Metal repops which I have on the fenders/ trunklid hold up MUCH better in the weather...

Slight hijack but related - does anyone know of a source, or if they even can be sourced, for the embossed "G.T. 350" label for the dash and trunk emblems? I'm looking for the label only, not frame with labels. My dash label is in a sorry state and would like to replace just the label if I could.

Thanks -

The dash/deck lid has 3 insert emblems, the SHELBY and GT350 or GT500 are silver with black letters and the Snake is the anodized pale Bronze/Gold gloss and matte and black - do you need all 3 or parts?  (also, being yours is an early car it may have had the non-embossed emblems)

Just the "G.T. 350" label.

The emblem I'm using is not original to the car but even the one that came on the dash when I acquired it had the embossed, or raised letter labels. Who knows if they were even OE.

Thanks JD.

Also the early dash and trunklid emblem plastic frame is a slightly smaller size when compared to the later production versions. The center snake applique is the same size as later (although the artwork is different) the other appliques are slightly smaller to fit in the slightly shorter plastic chromed frame.

Since the topic was emblems (not just the big front (if fitted), interior and rear I'll throw my hat in the ring.

I have three plastic side emblems. Two are new and are repops from 20+ years ago. They've lay hidden in the cabinet.
However the one pictured on the left is slightly more silver. Is it just older or original?

correct - just older, the originals fade over time.

S-H-H-H, don't tell anyone:  You can "recolor" the emblems by mixing model car "amber" (for turn signals) with clear at a ratio of 10 to 1 (one drop of amber to 10 drops of clear) and coat it.

I really fubared that query. I left some text in bit-heaven and it really clobbered the intent.

I have three emblems. Two of my emblems are from ~20 years ago. These two were purchased with the claim that could be NOS. Today I'm thinking repop. One of those two is on the right in the pic.
The one on the left, I believe, is an original dating much earlier. It was evidently on a car considering the state of the chrome backing plate.
They've been in a cupboard for all this time.

Is it possible either one is original?
These two looks very similar other than the fading.

they both look to be originals to me, one faded (left) and one (right) not faded.

Repro tell-tales are not there to my eye.
