Regarding Coucours judging, if your car was sent to SA in mid June 1965 and finished in late June 1965, and Ford went from L7 to L8 in June 1965 (Mannel Book), are both L7 and L8 changes acceptable?  Specifically speaking about timing chain cover and water pump.

Based on my research, by that time, the car would have a cast iron water pump.

Thanks for responding Brant.  Hope some of the other judges will offer their opinions.  Also, should the timing chain cover be the 7 rib or 2 rib style?

Not a judge but I can offer this example:  I owned a '65 Metuchen HiPo GT Pony interior fastback produced in late June '65 and it, too, had a cast iron water pump.

You would have the timing cover with 7 ribs. They are dated.

When was the engine built? Believe that would be the guiding or at least more solid factor

These 65 cars had 2 different water pumps and the one will not bolt on in the place of the other based on bolt hole locations. Is that correct or are there more variables and varieties?

The aluminum  waterpump will not fit the same timing cover as the one designed for the C5 cast iron waterpump. Yes there are also C6 and C8 cast iron waterpump varieties that will fit on the same timing cover as the C5 cast iron waterpump.
