LED lights for Console Gauges
« on: February 25, 2019, 11:02:00 AM »
Has anyone installed LED lights in 69/70 console gauges?  Suggestions and recommendations welcome. Thanks, MM500

I did.  They are much brighter now and can actually see the readings at night.  I did a full review and post on the old forum about this subject.  I can't remember the company I bought from.  I did my dash gauge lights in LED also from the same company.  I will try to find my receipt and let you know.

That would be much appreciated.  I am sick of the dim light.

I pulled my receipt.  I bought 4 of the lights at the link below.  2 for clock, if memory serves, and 2 for console gauges (mine are factory cup style).  I used warm white color. I used their factory color dash LED gauge light conversion kit and was very happy with increased brightness and clarity.

I did the same on my '68. But the color of the light (at least of the LED bulbs I bought) is noticeably more blue than the OEM bulbs.

That doesn't bother me enough to change them back, but it might others.

I do like to actually be able to read the gauges at night now.

I went all LEDs in the instrument cluster and the guage pod under the dash. I replaced the bulb filters in the dash and I also recommend going to a solid state voltage regulator.

One of the reasons I went with this hi po parts company's LEDs for my gauge cluster was that they assured me it would be a factory color.  All of the other companies just offered colors and left you guessing to get green, blue or white color bulbs.  I think mine look pretty true to original color, but just brighter.

I used the green factory filters with the leds. Here are pictures in my 67 Shelby.

Pretty sure my filters were a blue color in my 1969 shelby.  The owner of hi po parts knows a lot about getting the factory final color lighting for each year of mustang/shelby, and what filters to use.  I ended up keeping my original filters.

Your lights do have a blue color to them.  It is interesting you said your filters are green.

They are a blue/green filter. Drake makes the reproductions.  I see I posted a picture of the MD80 I was flying.. Oops.

I know Bill and would recommend him. He was the first to start doing the LED after leaving mgt at Ford in Dearborn and moving "up North" to Gaylord Mi.  Gary

Also I did an LED conversion for my tail lights for safety reasons and got my kit with sequencer  from one of the Cougar stores a few years back(NM?)  I highly recommend the LED in the tail lights because I have been almost rear ended a few times in broad daylight. Gary

I just picked up a '65 Mustang convertible, and the previous owner changed every bulb in the car with modern LED's.  Wow, what a difference!  I now can actually read the gauges at night.  The headlights are super bright and the taillights and turn signals look really nice.  I would highly recommend for any drivers out there.
