I was wondering on these dual serial numbered cars witch number would have been it's official titled with VIN? Anyone care to share?

Looks to me like an attemp to restamp & correct the dual stamped tag & how do u know which tag was where when new as cars been repainted & rivets are different?

Coralsnake

Good point, Ed. One of the other examples I have the tags are reversed, with the dual serial numbers under the hood and the single number on the door face.

I think this was day 1 attempt at vehicle ID and they quickly returned to underhood VIN and warranty plate configuration. Then the next change was to phase out the dual serial number tags all together.

I find it suspicious also. If you've got "20" more then it's significant. Are early '68s missing warranty tags in large batches?

As asked previously though, I can envision an issue with the local DMV with a car with two serial numbers on the tag. It may not have been a sinister modification.

There is little doubt that discountinuation of the "dual serial" tags was related to registration.

The "triple serial" number cars are merely an interesting footnote to that.

Sure... triple serial number cars... very interesting, but... whats the temperature there today???

That's what everybody really wants to know. ::)

No matter how you spin it this car still only has 2 different serial numbers not three.

Do you have any documentation of that, i.e., other cars done the same way?

So where are the pictures of the other cars? What I found interesting as the Registrar was that someone had something unusual and out of the norm, they would "stay away" from me, probably under the fear that their car was either counterfeit or somehow a freak that was going to get called out as bogus and humiliated.

VIN on passenger side dash is the official one.
