"Yes Elizabeth", it really happened! Such stories are now things of legend.

I took exception to the part of Rick's interview where he and Key debated over who it would be, Redford or Newman who would play who in the movie? I'd like to point out that both were fortunate not to have Jack Elam play them, i.e. 'the Doc' with the crazy finger? Food for thought if you ask me? ;)

The car had a somewhat checkered past at one point. Key had borrowed money against the car and gave the out of state lender the title. Later when an offer came in to buy the car he got a duplicate pink from DMV and sold the car.

The  local guy we bought his 69 drag pack mustang vert from that he owned in early 70s ran the 1975 connon ball with a ford stationwagon (too fool the cops) with a 429 scj & fuel cell & a guy went with them who operated an illegal radio jammer system & they would have won but had to wait in an oklahoma ford dealership lot in early am to open parts department to replace the burned out altenator from driving fast all night with hidden in the grill aircraft lights to light up the roads so they could speed. They are in the car & driver 75 magazine story & a photo of all the cars starting ontop the roof of NY building on the cover. He told us the complete story very crazy dangerest but fun trip &  he was a partner in a speedshop imagine that huh!!!

That would be the August 1975 Car and Driver  ;)

There's a picture of Key somewhere wearing a cap and saluting with the "finger". They used to call him Captain something? I forget what, but it wasn't Captain America.

shelbydoug,  It was Captain Normal and the pic was done after he had a high speed mishap on a rally; left front fender and wheel incident.

I think he ran the Later ones, 90's early 2000's.  On his show, He said he won TWO of them.

It was in an issue after vol 5 number four...I was looking thru all of them recently before I gave them to a local club member.
Seems it was near the front of the magazine.
