CSX3001 - The Bordinat Cobra, aka XD Cobra, was a Ford styling concept built on a coil-spring 427 Cobra chassis. The car was powered by a 289 Hi-Po V8 engine mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission, and the body was vacuum formed from Royalex composite material. The car was shown at the 1965 Detroit auto show.

Tail lights look similar to the ones on the '63-'64 Riviera.             :)

I suspect he is. I imagine he also misses his dad, Carl Mentz, who left us in July. RIP, Carl.

I'm thinking that was at the Rodeo Coach dealership.

That sounds correct. I was trying to remember the name of the lot, but it was escaping me. There was a Lamborghini there as well, but the only car that meant much to me was the Cobra. My fiancee ( now wife of almost 40 years) and I were visiting my sister in So. California and we stumbled upon this car. I had been looking for a Shelby for a couple years at this point, but a 289 Cobra was running about $30,000 and a 427 Cobra around $60.000. We bought our '67 GT500  about 2 1/2 years later for $7800. A far cry from what a Cobra was bringing in those days, but still a pretty good stretch for a 22 year old kid in 1982! $60,000 in those days was like $1,000,000 today!

Rodeo Coach supposedly sold it for $70k, so the time frame sounds correct. When I was 23, I only had to come up with $5500 for a 289 roadster. A stretch, yes, but thankfully well before the prices managed to rise right out of sight. Glad I got in when I did, even though just about everyone said I was nuts. I believe in the slogan "He who laughs last, laughs best."  :D

Very true! People thought I was crazy buying a 15 year old Mustang for 50% more than it sold for new! Glad I hung on to it through all the years. There were times when it was tempting to sell it, when we bought our house, put daughters through college.......Managed to keep it and I'm driving it to breakfast this morning!
