Let's step back in time. Set the Wayback Machine to 1972. Here are shots of a 427 Cobra in the Wilkes-Barre, PA area from 1972. This car and the Mustang behind it were apparently parked at Andy's Esso station for several years. Maybe Andy owned both? The Cobra reportedly had a Holman-Moody modified engine and the owner felt it made the car unsafe. Don't know who modified the hood. Surely someone here knows more???

Yeah, probably was a LOT of fun. I was just quoting a friend who took the pictures many years ago, based on what he was told at the gas station. It sure would be nice to find someone from the area who could fill us in on more details.

Here's a shot of CSX 3107, which was recently sold through Northwest Euro in Washington state:

3107 looks like a skinny fender car? 3109 doesn't. Is it the tire size?

I suspect is is more likely due to major body work following a crash. Note the width of the front flare at its leading edge. And the rears do appear to have been worked on.

Doug, if I understand your question, the contours of the body of 3109 are more correct than those on 3107.

From before I even saw a 427 Cobra up close in detail, I'd hear owners "debating" about how other cars were "wrong". They were talking about things like the rear fender flares and how CSX 3200 cars with 428s weren't "real Cobras".

I suppose the term "more correct" is consistent with that "Cobra social etiquette"?  ;D

This isn't a complaint by me. Just an acknowledgement of, "that's just the way it is" and I suppose part of the mystique to the Cobra?

I will always value and seek out your friendly yet factual views on Cobras. Thank you.

Let's acknowledge that there were a few different flare configurations and the cars did vary somewhat. But the idea the the 428 cars weren't real Cobras is silly. They were built on the same assembly line at AC Cars and Shelby American, so...

Other than it's 1976 in Dearborn, MI. I don't remember much about this car.

Of course but it seems that every CSX 3000 car is different in fender configuration even one number apart.

The 289's are at least consistent. That is if you don't compare the left side of the car to the right side?  ???

Thread on Ken Miles with CSX3002 at Lakeside Australia, November '65. Couple of another Cobra as well, not sure if it's a 3000 ?
