Are These Original Magstars?
« on: March 31, 2019, 05:36:17 PM »
Have a set of 5 of these old magstars.  Thinking of selling them but I am not sure if they are original.  Also, what are these selling for these days?

The fact that they are painted incorrectly black may indicate that they are some of the specialty wheel reproductions that years ago used rivets. The KH center has been available to the after market for decades. The rim would be the way to tell . Look for DOT markings on the rim. At one point Tom Sensabaugh (owner) evolved some of his wheels to have the markings stamped on the inside of the rim so you had to dismount the tire to see them. The DOT required safety bead made into the in the rim design also determines if replacement or vintage.

Selling with or without the tires. Without will save a ton on shipping.

They were used on '67's Shelby's from the Factory - but the first cars were released in 1966.

They were also available as aftermarket for all makes earlier than 1967 - Ford, Chevy, Mopar, AMC, etc.

Rivets look original. If they are flush inside and rims hold air, they probably are.

The “B6 2x” are the date code, I believe. Not sure exactly how to interpret but likely Feb of 66.
The 1st set I had used 3 rivets/spoke and were plainly dated 1966 but these required trim rings and were more like Marauder rims...so maybe a slightly different production process.

I’m no expert but have owned 3 sets, all 15x6...so obviously not OEM 67 Shelby.
I sold 2 sets over time & RE-rimmed to 7”/kept the 3rd set.

Nobody here or in the US seemed very interested as they weren’t ‘real’ (& repos) but the guy in France (Ebay) was extremely happy to buy mine (only had 3 of) them for his 68 Mustang resto. Imagine how hard it is to find em in Europe. I’m SURE he’d buy your spare.

If the chrome condition is excellent, they’ll sell. The problem is, restoring them puts the price out of reach when Paradise & China make alternatives. If these were on a Carroll Shelby or a Larry Shinoda prototype or personal vehicle, that’d be a different story....

Good luck. If I had a 67/8 Shelby, I’d have em on my car as drivers...

Here is a original magstar on ebay . One of the pictures shows a typical inside the rim KH marking. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Vintage-K-H-Magstar-wheel-15x7-1967-Shelby-Mustang-very-mint-condition/323763623494  .

No. Ten spokes are what you are thinking of that are stamped with a S7MS engineering number .

If you have any idea what they are worth, please let me know.  Just want a fair price for them.
The spare 15x6 is spoken for.  This is for 4 15x7 magstars.
