Jefferson 500 Summit Motorsports Park May 16-19
« on: April 14, 2019, 08:07:04 AM »
I was honored again this year to be commissioned by the Vintage Racer Group to create the poster for the Jefferson 500.

This is an annual vintage race held at Summit Point in West Virginia.

Hope to see some of you there - I'll be hanging with ELB Racing.

Phillip, Beautiful work on the poster, I'm sure they were happy to have you do it for them! I love the color combinations! Denny

Thank you very much Denny - it was my first opportunity to draw a Lola T70.

Rained like a mofo last year - hope we don't have a repeat this year.

Hey, that is a sharp poster, Phillip!

Did you create that all in solid colors with no fades. They could screen print a few t-shirts of that poster.
Certainly has a visual high impact. Very well done!!!

Thanks Rich -

Yes, they are solid colors and the base art is all vector, though I finished it up in Photoshop so I could do some fine tuning. My method is to draw the car with different felt tip markers, scan that in, turn the shapes into vector and then assign those shapes colors.

No shirts though and only a handful of posters. The VRG only have a few high quality large posters printed - one that all of the participants sign that is auctioned off at a banquet on the last night and another that goes into the permanent collection of Summit Point Motorsports Park and one that is given to the Grand Marshal I believe.

Oh, and one for me  ;D

It been a long time since I've done any work in Illustrator and or Photoshop. Even then, I'm not sure I was ever as talented as what you have done.
The background has subtle movement, the subject has fantastic perspective (or is that dimension), and the text is bold and well coordinated.
Like I said, well done!

Glad you were able to get a poster too, since they are limited!

LOL! I'm going to print out your post and pin it to my drawing table!

Thanks - I LOVE vintage racing and this (along with recreating graphics and liveries for a couple of restorations) is one way I can be involved.
