65 Fastback Rear Courtesy Light
« on: May 14, 2019, 07:42:10 PM »
The rear side panels of a 65 fastback each contain a courtesy light that has a tube bonded to the back side of the panel. What purpose does the tube serve?
Have a car in shop that is missing the pass side courtesy light tube and have really never thought of why they are there in first place.
Thanks

Martin,

It serves two purposes, first, its to contain the light emitting through the courtesy lens, otherwise if the trunk were open as well as a door the light would be seen above the rear wheel wells. That lighted area is shaded not to draw the owner to think it's useable space. Secondly, the tube keeps moisture off it from the drain tray above it from the side vent. The drain tube runs next to the tube.

Hi MyGT350,

Does the other side have the cardboard or plastic tube?  I have an extra plastic tube if needed.
