Of course the auction results give you one picture . Some be high prices paid and some low for a given make or model.  The high or low perceived price for a given car in those auction results is relative to the condition to those cars at the auction. The condition of a auction car can be typically hard to convey to others reading this thread. In the case of Steve J's RIP cars it is not hype and easy convey by saying that they are the best of the best. Not so much some of the other cars auction results being discussed IMO.

The Green 67' GT 350 that hammered at $172,500 was #0016 a public relations car, it looked great over the TV.
The Blue GT 500 #1007 look good too.  Hammered above $175,000 I think.

No idea what was with the low prices on a 68 KR c'vert (Green w/black int.) and a 68 KR fastback (Blue)  both were going to "the bid goes on".  A 69 Boos 429 when no sale at $175,000

Why did almost every Mustang/Shelby/Cougar have the "Caustion Fan" sticker?  Were they giving them out in a goody bag?

Mecum's coverage: Cut to a commercial, when they came back the reddish/mauve Cobra dragsnake was shown rolling off after being hammered at $700,000 (!!!)  The winningest dragsnake.  Somebody stole that one.
Not Cobra or Shelby related but a saw a 69 Hurst/Olds go for $60,000 when Olds W-30's were all above $90,000.  As Bob said, you have to be there to see the condition.

I looked over some cars and if I saw the results on TV I would have shook my head but seeing them in person I could see why some cars sold for what would appear to be a steal if not seen in person. Gary
Shelby owner since 1984
SAAC member since 1990
1970 GT350 4 speed(owned since 1985).
  MCA gold 2003(not anymore)
1969 Mach1 428SCJ 4 speed R-code (owned since 2013)

+1, saw some of them in person, quite different than what they may have appeared to be on TV.

Guys,

I completely agree.... numbers on paper are just that. Unless you are able to have a hands on inspection, it's kinda like getting a haircut over the phone.

Thanks very much for the recap.

I looked over the 69 Hurst and shook my head. It was really nice. Far from an expert on those cars but it appeared to be a steal to me.

I think this is the one Bret used to own and was discussed on here previously that it was getting a top resto.
