Shelby inspection in France
« on: February 13, 2018, 12:05:52 PM »
I am considering purchasing a 1969 GT500 which is currently located somewhere in France. I need someone who is knowledgeable to inspect the car on my behalf but am not having any luck locating anyone suitable. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I would love to go 'somewhere in France". I am a long time  69/70 Shelby concours judge however living in the Middle area of the US the travel expenses will add up quickly. I just thought I would let you I was ready and able . :D

I have known and done business over the past ten years with Alain Amzallag of Bullit Racing in France. They are located in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and have Shelby experience.

Here is a link to their web site:

Suggest that you might want to start the process by getting someone (where every they might be in the world)  to look over some detailed and overall pictures of the car before you go to the next step.  This might save some dollars and someones effort.  You can often weed out the cars that do not fall into your scope of interest, focus or level of quality or amount of repair and replacement.

DOES NOT replace an in person inspection but we often can stop from going forward with discoveries using this process

Just a thought - good luck with your choices

Depending on the time of the year cost of flights can be more or less than one across the continental US if you’re from from the east coast. Its all in the timing

+1 on having someone look at closeup pictures of differnt aspects of the car prior to going further. At least half of the people that want me to inspect a car for them end up not going through with inspection after I study the pictures and explain to them what is there and not there in relation to their expectations of a car to purchase.

Here is a guy I know in France who has been following export Shelbys and many years ago put me in touch with one  prior owner of my car plus he gave me the heads up on the guy who bought my 68 5 years ago. This is his FB page and you can message him if you like. Doesn't hurt to have as many contacts as you can. https://www.facebook.com/jocelyn.poupard.16?pnref=friends.search

Have one buyer that we've gone through the process four times so far. Each that he has found and sent didn't pass the email picture step of the process so the search goes on for him. Easy, somewhat quick and cheaper way to eliminate some candidates.

Much better than flopping under a car after a day long trip or longer only to discover something within the first few minutes of an inspection and ending things there.

Like Chris, and if the location is in the Lyon area, I may be able to find some knowledgeable people there.
But before inspection, try to get maximum of information.
