Sad news today for Cobra history and racing history.   Monte Shelton passed away today.  He was an avid race car driver in the Pacific Northwest.  He also owned a car dealership and was very well known in the Portland, OR area.  He raced CSX2290 in the 60's and owned a few more Cobras later on.

A very nice video from a couple years ago of Monte talking about his racing career.   The Cobra story is at 3:51 - https://youtu.be/L1TL3XI2H5s

Always important to write down your memories or video them for others otherwise these memories are eventually lost forever.
"Low she sits on five spoke wheels
Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

Monte was fast and a challenge for the Shelby's factory teams.  I was fortunate to see him race CSX2290 in an SCCA National at Vaca Valley Raceway.  He was very quick and won A-Production that day over the black ex-Leslie Cobra "Snake" driven by Foster Alexander.

Always sad to hear of another loss.

Forum 1.0 was a wealth of information.   Now gone too.

I found this great photo of Monte Shelton at Pacific Raceways (Kent, WA) in 1965 on Facebook today.   Bill Dolph Jr photo.
