caliper and master cylinder color
« on: February 19, 2018, 10:15:04 AM »
We are trying to get the paint colors correct on the little 69 gt500.

1. Were the brake master cylinders painted with the cap in place or was the reservoir masked  off?

2.  Is semi gloss black correct for front brake calipers?

thank you for the help!!!!

The brake Master cylinder and booster including cap were painted as a unit semigloss black . The front brake calipers on a 69/70 Shelby were bare cast iron however there is evidence to support that a brush coating of black paint was applied to the wheel facing portion so that flash rust would not be seen through the spokes of the deluxe Shelby wheels. Much like what was done on the rear drums.

So, for a concours finish, the caliper should be left bare? Would any points be taken off by a S.A.A.C. judge for brushing a semi-gloss black on the calipers wheel-facing portion?
Waitin' for the day I get my first '70 Shelby convertible!

No points would be taken off by a knowledgeable SAAC judge for brushing a semi-gloss black on the calipers wheel-facing portion.

The black was also brushed on front rotors as well as rear drums.  ;)

That is odd given that the center of the rotor was not seen and covered by the center of the wheels unlike the outer portion seen through the spoke wheels on the rear brake drums and front rotors(calipers). It is unrewarded work on a front rotor.
