Lance Reventlow's Cobra
« on: February 19, 2018, 01:34:26 PM »
"Low she sits on five spoke wheels
Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

I saw it once at Legendary Motorcar for sale before it was known to be Lance's car from what I heard.  At that time it did not have this livery. It is truly a thing of beauty and a thing of beauty is a joy forever. So goes the poem. What a potent color scheme. I'd like to propose to it. But then would come the incessant nagging, you're not home enough. You don't drive me enough. And so the story goes.

This has been known as having been bought by Reventlow for many years. Even prior to Legendary's purchase. But there are no race records to fall back on that show Lance as ever having raced a Cobra. Shelby himself said Reventlow bought it with the approval of his father as a gift to his half-brother Dick, who chose to party on in Europe rather than come home to enjoy the Cobra. His loss.

I had a chance to see this fine beauty up close at the 2017 Mecum Auction in Kissimmee.  It really was amazing!  It was a no sale at $800K.

From what I've heard, there was a smear campaign a while back, regarding the car.  I don't know all the details, but it's a shame that a car as nice as this one might be tainted by someone speaking out of turn.
Nothing beats a classic!

Hence my reference to prior threads where the gauntlet was thrown down.     8)

That car seems to have been for sale for ever!

Its used to be in Milwaukee,  had the narrow street type flares,  narrow painted wires,  302 rebuilders engine.  guardsman blue.  no race parts on it at all Referred to by then owner Ron Ressman as " the roadster "  .

That's a little heartbreaking to read.

No race parts at all? Car was equipped from the factory with sway bars, aluminum hi-rise intake, comp ignition and tach, comp oil pan, race tires, and a roll bar. When it was built - early in January of '63 - that's what comp parts were offered by Shelby American, other than the kidney-bean Halibrands, which were used on the factory comp cars.

Maybe he parked it in the bad ass part of town and they stripped all the good stuff from it?
