$10,000 racing stripes for the new GT 500

Tad pricey isn't it? But then again they are painted on so that slows down production.

Come over to my place, I'll do it for $500.00, with masking tape and Krylon.

In this day if robotic assembly and painting, it would seem that a special computer assisted paint booth to aplly the tripes would be in order.

OK were going to sell the GTs so the dealers can't screw you with a "market value" price gouge but then we'll screw you out of 10 grand for a couple stripes. Boy that new Corvette is looking better and better.

It seems Ford deems their market base for new Shelbys to be suckers. I'd got buy a mid engine Vette instead. Gary

Yeah. This pricing is supremely disappointing. You could add vinyl stripes to a new 350 for $495, you can the same on a new 500 for $1,000...but painted stripes have a 1,000% markup?  :o
Nothing beats a classic!

The reason cost is high.   Cars are being pulled off assembly line and brought to Penske facility and then painted by a human not robot and then clearing virtually entire car again.  They are burying  the stripes in the clear and will  have a much nicer finish from what I am told.  Not crazy when you think about the extra time spent  and and virtually painting  an entire car again.

Just my 2 cents from a bodymans standpoint.  lol

I seem to have stirred up a hornet nest here. At first look the price seems ridiculous but I defer to the body man and hey the cost of labor in the US is much higher and this is what drove our economy to China in the first place. If you look at Ferrari options they can be obscenely priced for the smallest of baubles and buyers don't balk at that. Hey, owners will appreciate the extras they ordered when it comes time to sell as they will be highly coveted options.
Best regards gentlemen,

Richard E.

They (Ferrari and others) took a lesson from Porsche, now the new Corvette and Ford are doing it too. (new Corvettes can double in price with all the options available)

Also, they all have learned from Porsche to do the special edition limited quantity runs to keep attention on the brand (lots of press coverage) and unique models in the high-priced, high-profit segment.

Seems as though some like to brag that they "had" to pay for these high dollar options.

Keeps things interesting...

Ton of typos on my last reply. Sorry. I was waiting in court so I didn't keep as close an "eye on the a.i."
