NOS rotunda mirror find
« on: September 19, 2019, 11:30:59 PM »
I was thrashing on eBay about a week ago and came across a NOS Rotunda gt350 mirror which I needed for 6s281, (thanks Cory). The mirror showed up today and it was like opening a time capsule, I felt a bit guilty pulling everything out of the original box after it had been there about 54 years. The mirror is perfect, the small envelope that had the gaskets and screws had never been opened. It came with two base gaskets, one is flat the other has a curve to fit the curve on a mustang door, I had never seen a curved gasket before. One of the most interesting things in the box were the original mounting instructions, there is also a paper template that shows exactly where the mirror should mount on a 65-66 Mustang. I’m sure some of you already know about the mounting location. If anyone would like a copy PM me and I will arrange to get a actual size copy to you, Just cover postage.
Thanks, Karl

I saw that Karl, nice piece.  I'm glad it went for the right car.

Thanks Brian,  i’m very happy to have it for my car. The mirror has been missing on 6s281 since my brother purchased it in 1972.

Great find! Does it have the little "a" something etched in the mirror?

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

Oh yeah baby! That etching!
I have one but haven't installed on 843 yet. I almost want to set up a shrine around it and leave the repro service one on and just enjoy knowing the original is several feet from the garage (in the house) ready to be installed at a day and time of my choosing. Once again great find and congrats.

Karl,

What a COOL story about an incredible score! It always feels great to learn of a really good part finding the best home. Thanks for the excellent photos of everything as well.

I see there is not a dimension from the front hole to the edge of the door on the template. Can you share with us what that distance measures? (from memory, I’m guessing 2.0”?)

Thanks,

I would be happy to share the template with you. It is kind of hard to give an exact measurement because the front of the door tapers towards the drip rail. P.m. me your mailing address and I will send you a good copy of the template.

This etching?

Thanks for posting this picture! I was looking at the mirror on my Carryover, and I was able to verify the mirror etching.

I’m not very familiar with these mirrors. Is it hard to find an original mirror with the correct etching?
Nothing beats a classic!

Took me a while to find the one I have.  Looks too nice to put on the car and I persist in keeping the repro on.  For now.

^^^^^Listen to him. Otherwise you have a Shelby devoid of it's parts. Like a cadaver with all its vitals removed. I am inclined to put mine on.
